Well, possibly since 1862 when a man named Jerry Thomas included his recipe for 'punch jelly' in a book titled 'How to Mix Drinks, or The Bon Vivant's Companion'.
I'm sure his punch jelly was a hit, as much as vodka jelly shots have been over the last fifty years. But lets be honest - the average vodka jelly shot often disappoints. Messy to make at home, the flavour overpowered by cheap vodka, swimming with animal gelatin... The thought's pretty grim in the cold light of the morning after.
