The setting: we were overdue a team building exercise at Hard Jelly Headquarters.
We're not ones to put ourselves through a 'bonding by suffering' assault course if there's a warm, dry option on the table - and the return of ABBA to London's airwaves was all the excuse we needed to enjoy a 'bonding by boogieing' night in one of the most high-tech and talked about concerts of the last few years.
Was ABBA Voyage worth the admittedly pricey admission?
Every. Single. Penny.
The technological challenges that must have been overcome to make it look like ABBA were really there, truly there, on stage in front of us as they sung hit after flawless hit must have cost a fortune (Oh, just a cheeky £140 million Google says). We can't blame the band for wanting to claw their investment back.
The whole night was an absolute joy on many levels. ABBA's music is of course pop-perfection, and experiencing it with fresh staging and digital art that spreads across a huge ultra-high-res digital screen, amongst a happy crowd loving every moment... Well, let's just say it beats singing along to the songs in your living room clutching a glass of Prosecco.
The Hard Jelly team's personal favourite moments were during 'Fernando', where a giant eclipse takes place behind the four members of ABBA, and an incredible transition that takes place between the songs 'Lay All Your Love On Me' and 'Summer Night City'. We won't spoil the surprise, but make sure you don't blink during those few moments.
When 'Dancing Queen', possibly the best pop song ever written, started booming.. The dancefloor went wild. All we felt was missing was some perfectly-chilled Hard Jelly - somehow ABBA and alcoholic jelly seem like the perfect fit.
Anyone got Bjorn's email so we can ask him if he agrees?
